What do Marketing Companies do?

Let’s face it: marketing can be intimidating, but you don’t need to know everything about it to get the most out of your business’s marketing efforts. It’s probably better if you don’t try! Instead, start by asking yourself these questions: What do I want my customers and potential customers to do? What is their goal when they interact with my content? How can I make life easier for them so that they reach that goal faster?

That’s where we marketing companies take centre stage with solutions to your questions, bringing you many benefits to your business. Here, we talk to Mirage and Mole Managing Director Lee Moulson, who explains the fundamentals of marketing and what we do to help businesses grow.

Marketing gets your business noticed

Marketing is the process of communicating your business to your target audience. It helps you get noticed, and it helps your business grow.

When you think about what a marketing company does, you might imagine an advertisement or a billboard.  But marketing goes beyond advertising alone.  We use a variety of tools and strategies to promote our clients’ products or services, including:

  • Social media campaigns (like organic and paid-for advertising on TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook etc.)
  • Public relations strategies (like writing press releases, award submissions, staging PR events)
  • Web design services (like creating websites with great user experiences (UX) for consumers to visit)
  • Google My Business page management and optimisation (like managing reviews, posting updates and offers)
  • SEO activity (like blog writing, Google ads, tag manager etc.)
  • Out of Home (OOH) Advertising (like those digital billboards etc.)
  • Media buying (like getting your business on digital TV, buying advertising space etc.)
  • Marketing activity ROI (like tracking the success of campaigns)

Do you have the time and skills in your organisation for all the above?

Marketing has changed

Marketing has changed. In today’s digital age, marketing is a much more complicated undertaking than it used to be. It’s not just about buying ads and getting people to your landing page anymore; many other factors affect your success and how you can use technology to reach your customers.

In this part, we’ll explore the changes in marketing over time and how those changes have affected both businesses and consumers.  We’ll look at how we marketers use technology today – from social media to mobile apps – which has helped create new opportunities for connecting with customers on a deeper level than ever before!

Make it easy for your audience to act

One of the things that companies do is make it easy for their audience’s audience to act. We design marketing campaigns that are clear, simple, and easy to understand so that people don’t have to work too hard or spend too much time trying to figure out what they should do next.

This means using clear calls-to-action (CTR) in your content. You want people to know precisely what you want them to do when they are finished reading your article or watching your video: sign up for your newsletter, buy product X on amazon, share this with a friend on social media, etc.

Suppose you want someone who reads an article about a new product launch at ‘Such’ company. In that case, you need to ensure that information is front and centre of the content – not buried somewhere below some other unrelated paragraph full of jargon and industry jargon (unless it’s part of the story).

Connect with customers on their terms

Social media is an excellent way to connect with your customers, but it’s not the only way. A lot of companies use social media in different ways. For example:

They use social media to create a community around their products or services.  By engaging with customers on social channels, you can find out what they want from your business and tailor your offerings accordingly.  This will help you target the right demographics for advertising messages and ensure that every customer feels valued by your company.

Use social media to increase brand awareness by creating content that gets shared across multiple platforms so that more people see it than if they just saw one post online elsewhere (like LinkedIn).

Use social media platforms such as Twitter or Facebook Live, where users can interact directly with brands through comments on posts made by those companies’ official accounts which could lead them back into repurchasing something someday soon!

Show don’t tell

Show don’t tell.  At the risk of sounding like something out of Groundhog Day, this is another essential thing to remember when writing copy for your website.

When describing a product on your site, make it as visual as possible. For example, instead of saying:

“Our products are amazing.”

Say something like:

“Here’s an amazing shot of our latest design.”

People will engage with you if you engage with them

Engaging with the people who will support your business is an excellent way to build a relationship with them.  If you talk to them, they’ll talk back.

Engaging with your customers makes them more likely to buy from you again.  If you engage with your audience, they’re more likely to read your content, watch your videos, or listen to what you have to say.

If you engage with employees, they’ll be happier and more productive at work, and if they’re comfortable and effective at work, they’ll keep doing good things for the company that keeps them employed!

And it’s not just limited to people: plenty of other things in life can benefit from engagement (if only marketing companies had invented those too). To name a few: businesses need engaging experiences; communities need interesting events; organisations need attractive opportunities; products need fascinating features…you get the idea!

Target your audience

The first step in targeting your audience is understanding who they are.  This may sound simple, but it’s pretty complex.  You need to consider your target audience by demographics, psychographics, and location; the channels they use; the content they consume and create; and finally, the content they share.

The next step is to ensure you’re communicating with them in a way that makes sense for them as individuals (but also as one group). So even if all members of your target audience have Facebook accounts, don’t just advertise on Facebook – try advertising on LinkedIn or Pinterest too.  And if some people in your target market prefer Twitter over other social networks?  Make sure that’s where you reach out first!
